Robert was living in a shelter when we met him. He was facing several legal challenges.
First, incarceration and an accident had rendered him unable to keep up with child support obligations. He owed thousands of dollars. As a result, his license was suspended and he was unable to work as a driver.
Though his daughter’s mother had forgiven the amount due, and his daughter was 21 years old and past the age of child support, the Office of Child Support Enforcement continued to bill Robert, allowing debt to accrue.
We negated the improper debt, reducing the obligations to zero.
Robert then came back to us with another pressing legal matter—there was a warrant out for his arrest. We leveraged our network and resources to discover that there was not a warrant out for Robert’s arrest, but that there was an error on his RAP sheet.
To safeguard against future occurrences or run-ins with the law, we removed the error and cleared up other procedural difficulties caused by his criminal conviction.
Robert has successfully completed his program at our partner organization, The Bowery Mission, and is working again as a taxi driver.
